SATURDAY DECEMBER 5TH Cold but sunny.
We had gone for 80 but came away with 81. Familiar story! One little hen had obviously sat in the cage for some time with a broken wing.It was set in a half flapping pose. I pointed it out to farmer and so he agreed to sell us another. This little hen totally besotted a lovely land scape gardener friend who has regularily had girls from us over the years. He had asked for six hens from the rescue but happily went home with seven.
Many many thanks to Lisa who gave us some lovely hen jumpers at very short notice. To the people who took these jumpers......a reminder. Please send your photos if the hens need to wear the jumpers. They will feature in their own little fashion parade on the site.
PS Lisa helpfully suggests you don't allow jumpers to get wet. Wet jumper=miserabley wet cold hen.
SUNDAY JANUARY 17TH 2010
I called this my mini rescue because we "only" got 11 hens. We will do a rescue of any number as long as farmer agrees. He still has lots available that should have gone to slaughter last week of 2009........they have been given a reprieve for a little while. Needless to say there were 11 happy little hens blinking in the sunlight for the first time today. Also thanks to Julie we had lots of designer hen jumpers for people to choose from if they felt the need. One lady even found a matching one to her son Max's jumper{knitted by his nanny} she was delighted. Made us all chuckle.Thank you to those lovely people today and a big thank you to Julie who has the honour of knowing the hens will be kept warm by those exclusive designs if they need them.
THURSDAY 21ST JANUARY 2010
20 more girls rescued today. 2 designer jumpers went with them for 1 slightly balding but very fiesty little hen! Gradually chipping away at those "Christmas leftovers"....but we've saved 1 little hen for every day of January so far......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THURSDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2010
